Wow, this works for my German Short-haired Pointer!
I’ve had my Pointer on the Pet-Safe system for one month. I’ve waited to review to make sure the system works. I was very skeptical before purchasing because my dog is highly active. Seems ADHD. When let to run free, he will always pick up a scent, and then he’s off for the running. Nothing will call him back! I will eventually get a call from the police in the nearby town, or the kennel just up the road. We are on ten acres, semi-rural, just within the city limits. Would love to just let him run. But?? Anyway, the Pet-Safe. I received the system about a month ago and will share my experiences.Day One: I set up the system, established the perimeter at the maximum range, white flagged….. I then put the Pet-Safe collar (at level 3) on the dog and walked him (his normal lunging from side to side) out to the perimeter. When approaching the perimeter, he would stop and just look around like “What is going on?”. I would return to the safe zone and then walk out to another flag at the perimeter. Same thing, “What is going on?”. Then return to the safe zone. We did the entire perimeter this way, and then called it a day.Day Two: I now set the level on the collar to 5. We did the perimeter walk the same way, but this time the collar got his attention and he would initiate the return to safe by himself. We made the entire perimeter with the same results. I decided to take a risk and let him run free, even though it was just day 2. He loved running free, and when nearing the perimeter, he would run back to me and sit there for a moment (while receiving praise and petting). I let him run for another twenty minutes with the same results. We called it a day.Day Three: I put the collar on him and let him run free. We enjoyed positive results and he never left the perimeter. I let him run for another half hour, then called it a day. I removed the Pet-Safe collar from him and went to turn the collar off. But, what I noticed was that I just now turned it on. Uh-Oh, I had neglected to turn the collar on when I put it on him. But, he had responded as though the collar were active. Wow, was I surprised. Trained by day three!?!This is a dog that could never be called back if he picked up a scent, which he always did. We now get to run free twice a day (usually), and have never had a failure. A few days ago, I pulled my flat bed trailer around to the back area of the property, well beyond the Pet-Safe perimeter. My dog followed and I wondered what would happen. He followed right along, but at the perimeter he immediately bolted back to the safe zone. Has done wonders for his disposition. I had to be trained too. I now make sure I’ve viewed the on/off status of the collar.I would like to comment on the system installation. The instructions mention that the system does not work well if installed near steel. My shop and all my outbuildings are covered with corrugated steel roofing and siding. I had to install this in my shop. Works fine and I’m achieving a consistent perimeter of a 150′ radius.I would like to offer an update to my above review. We are now about six months into the use of the PetSafe system. Nothing has changed from my original review. Stills works great. Not one glitch. My GSH Pointer really loves to run. He looks forward to it every day. There have been times that he’s come running back to me on his own, sitting there with an “expression” on his face as if to say “OK, I’m done now”. This has really helped with his overall behavior (much less destructive), and my feelings toward my dog have greatly improved.Additional Update: We are now thirteen months into the system. Everything is functioning just the same as previously stated. I’d like to comment on durability. As I mentioned earlier, this dog has hunting instincts. We live on a wooded ten acre site with outbuildings, also some junk piles (left over building supplies) out back. This is a perfect place for wildlife, therefore, opportunities for hunting. My dog takes advantage of this and pursues critters into and under the buildings, also into the junk piles. I had been concerned as to the durability of the collar and transmitter with the abuse of that environment. The transmitter housing is a bit scratched up, but everything is functioning fine. I had purchased a replacement collar with expectation of having to use it. The replacement still hangs new on the wall.

best purchase for our pups
i like how easy it is to customize the settings on the collars and the base. i do wish either the batteries lasted a little longer or there was a way to replace them without having to buy a whole new collar. we bought a second collar when we bought the set 3 years ago since we have 2 dogs. the first collar had to be replaced a year and nine months later and the second one had to be replaced two years and seven months later. now, we are having to replace the first one again after a year and two months.all in all, it works great and we have not had any issues except the collars dying after a while. i feel like some of the complaints are user error and settings. we have never had a collar go off inside the house and once our pups learned their perimeter outside, they have been smart enough to not test it again. there was one talking nasty about dealing with customer service. the second time we had to replace a collar it was still under warranty and we had no problems whatsoever getting a replacement covered.

My pet safe unit is 4 years old & the home base run’s constantly and still working awesome!!!
I’ve had this pet safe unit for 4 years now. Thee home base has Ben running constantly since the day we bought it the collar I take of him and turn it off when not in use and it works great. Me and the wife love it! The only thing I did wrong was to charge it to often when we first got it & the collar quit working. I Knew what I did wrong so I ordered a new collar and now I only charge when the light turns orange when you turn it on. And it works perfectly barely charge it Now. I have a 95lb yellow lab named Matt and he knows his boundaries. I have 3 acres so I have a nice big circle for him to zoom around. The way I have it set up he can go have way down the driveway both sides of my house and a good distance in the back yard. Because I have the home base set up in the back of my house. It’s funny when I take him for a walk along the wood line behind my house I take his collar off an he gets excited because he knows we are going past his zone! Like I said l’v had this now for 4 years and we love it. I tell Matt no collar no going in the holler. My neighbor turned me on to this and I’m glad he did. No burying wires just set the range test it set the shock which mine is set on 2 which is low. and you are good to go. Some times I go out in the yard I will not put the collar on him we call it letting him out nude. But he stays in side his zone unless I go past his zone then he will follow me with out his collar especially when I take him to see his girlfriend next door. Again great product!!! Highly recommend. But remember don’t over charge wait till light turns orange when you turn the collar on. Then charge. Mine lasts for months before changing and he wears it every day out side

Works, but with a major flaw: random zaps!
Creates a great, reliable boundary, and is portable from one location to another. Good battery life. The one flaw (and it’s a pretty big one) – we can tell when the battery gets low because the collars start randomly zapping our dogs, even when they’re well within the boundaries. Poor puppies!! 😢 Tried to get a replacement, same issue. Still worth it to keep them alive, but pretty expensive mistake. Maybe should have tried a different brand instead.

Overall I am really happy and glad I bought this product. Happy because it works and glad because my two dogs won’t be shot.I am new to rural living and always thought that people out in these parts just had the luxury of allowing your pets to have free reign. Not true! I received an unknown call one night from a neighbor just down the road. A nice enough conversation until the neighbor told me that his neighbor told him to shoot my dogs next time they came to his property! OMG I thought. So I started keeping them in until they needed to go to the washroom. Took them out on a leash. That, need I even say, became tedious! There much be a better way. We have no fences and for the 7 acres we have it would cost a fortune! In comes this product after doing a bit of research.Easy to set up. Easy to use. One thing though. I did NOT use the wire pegs at all. I went to put them up and mark out to the dogs where they could not go and thought to myself — these things would hurt if impaled through the leg, foot or any part of the body. Got scared to use them. So I went through the rest of the set up and training. Just went out with them and let them figure out where they couldn’t go. It worked within 3 days! Now, unless we take the necklaces ( that’s what we call them ) off they know not to go far! One thing to remember is don’t entice them to get shocked. If they do it on their own it’s fine and they learn but if you goad them into doing it they simply stop trusting you.I recommend this product to anyone that needs to contain their animal buddies within a reasonable area.

This was a great buy! We’ve had this product for about three months now and it is still working perfectly. It was very easy to install and was set up within an hour. We plugged it inside of our garage and set it to the largest parameter. This gives our dog most of the front yard and all of the backyard for her to play in. The training guide was very helpful as well and our dog adjusted well to her new boundaries. We have found that the sound of the beep is enough now to guide our St. Bernard back into her boundary line. I would definitely recommend this product for those who are not wanting to do all the extra digging to lay the fencing down. This is a great way to quickly set up a boundary with as little effort as possible.

I’ve only had it a couple weeks, so it’s hard to tell for sure, but the product seems good and works as advertised. Hopefully the battery will last as it’s not replaceable. I’m having a little trouble with the training, but we’ll get there. Be sure to do your homework first though. I may have missed it in the ad, but I didn’t know until I sarted setting it up and visited the manufacturer’s website, that it doesn’t work well if you have a metal roof on your house and/or if you have hilly terrain. It does seem to be managing the slope in my driveway, but it’s close. I also only seem to be getting about half the expected range, and I think that’s because of the metal roof.

We have pet safe, stay in play system, and got a second dog. So of course we needed a second collar. We got this one and I highly recommend. Not only do I love the pet safe stay in place system, but this additional colour was super easy to have connected to our system, and the colours work great for our dogs. We love that we never have to worry that our dogs are going to run away. Our puppy loves her colour so much that she even jumps up to take it off of the kitchen table and carries it around in her mouth until you put it on her. So I guess you could say this is highly recommended by both humans and Doggos!

Great product, me and my dog loved it. That said, the receiver started giving out 1 year in. We contacted pet safe to be told we just need to rebuy a receiver. At over 500$ its sad to see it only last 1 year.I asked what else i could do so that the next one wouldn’t give out after 1 year – i was told well use it less , turn it off more often .. disappointed in the lifespan of the product.
