  1. Amazon Shopper

Great camera system if you want excellent customer support.
This review applies to Firstrend Wireless NVR Kit Model # FTUS-W843M1TA-XM, which includes a wireless NVR unit, (4) 3MP wireless bullet cameras (resolution: 2288×1288), 5 power cables, a mini mouse, drill templates, a short ethernet cable and a user manual. This was my first purchase with a CCTV solution and it was an easy learning curve. Unboxing was straight forward, no issues there. The NVR itself is housed in a metal chassis with a 1 TB hard drive, the outer ports are (1) VGA, (1) HDMI port, (1) Ethernet port, (2) USB ports, (1) power port, and 2 wifi antennas. The unit does not come with an HDMI or VGA cable, so you must supply yourself if you want to setup the unit through the onboard setup. Once you connect the unit to power, and you can see a picture on the TV/monitor, the NVR will run through a setup wizard that is self explanatory. You cannot type in this interface, or hook up a keyboard, but the on screen menu will let you use a virtual keyboard where you can click the letters to setup a password for the system. The cameras come pre configured and paired from the factory. All you need to do is supply power. If for some reason your camera isn’t paired, you can run through the menus and pair them by using the supplied ethernet cable. Each camera comes with an antenna, an adjustable ball socket that will clamp down, a mounting bracket with (3) screw holes, and a pair of wires that hold an ethernet jack and a power dongle. Placing them is relatively easy, and there are packs of drywall mounting screws if you need that.I tested this system for 30 days. What I liked:Easy setup: I was able to get it running in about 20 minutes, unboxing to NVR setup.Wireless connection is very strong. It runs the cameras on its own wireless network using an MKK protocol by default.Silent: the unit isn’t noisy at all.Interface: the onboard interface can be clunky, but once you’ve been in the menus, everything is just a right click away.Storage: the entire 30 days I was recording, I managed to fill up about 600GB of the 1 TB storage. This is 24/7 footage with motion alert clips.Backup: you can backup your clips to an external storage. My 5 TB drive wasn’t recognized, but a 2TB drive worked just fine.Voice: each clip was also accompanied with audio.Playback: I could see all of my clips through the interface by using a quick search.Support: their technical support is top notch. They will usually respond to emails in a day or so, and their phone tech support is amazing.RTSP support: it is not explicitly mentioned anywhere, but after trying varying combinations of rtp:// urls I was able to get a feed from the different cameras to stream to YouTube or Twitch. For those interested it is rtsp://[username]:[password]@[ipaddress]:[port]/channel=%5Bcamera number]&stream=[0 or 1].sdp?Remote login: You can setup your router to port forward 3 different ports to login and view the clips or live feed.Phone app: XMEye Pro is what is recommended for this NVR. It connected flawlessly and I was able to manage the cameras and NVR easily. What I disliked:Power setup: each camera needs to be individually plugged in. Be prepared to use extension cords.Backup: to backup your clips, you must use the onboard software or the VMS software. You can only backup 1024 records or files at a time, and each backup of 1024 records takes on average about an hour. I had about 14,000 records. Customer service said they would fix this in a future update.Backup format: you can choose between three different formats to backup in: .h264, .avi, .mp4. The .h264 standard this NVR system uses is a proprietary version, so if you want to somehow view them on your computer, they won’t play unless you use the included video codec executable the backup software writes to the backup directory. If you want avi and mp4 backups, be prepared for clips that are sped up too fast. I think it has something to do with the conversion trying to force a 30fps framerate on a 6-7 (average) fps clip. Also, sometimes the mp4/avi clips will drop entire chunks of video (20 seconds at a time).Windows software: You can also control this NVR through a windows application that is not included with the package nor available on their website. You need to contact customer service to get it. Once you have it, the interface is intuitive, and you can reach most settings for the NVR. The camera live feed is nice, but if you click on another tab of the program, it will sometimes bug out and not be able to load the feed. Restarting the software fixes this.Hard drive: As mentioned before, you need to use the software to get your clips. If you physically take the hard drive out to backup your clips, the drive is not recognized in any OS – Linux and Windows (didn’t have a Mac). This is for security reasons I’m sure, but it’s annoying when I just want to copy the raw data.Wireless positioning: The wireless signal is strong, but you will need to find a place somewhere in the middle of your cameras if you want the sweet spot without having to piggyback one camera off another. The piggyback solution uses one of your cameras as a repeater of sorts to connect a far away camera to a camera that’s closer to your NVR. I tried doing this to one of my cameras, and it fixed that cameras connection, but left the repeating camera’s connection slower.Inconsistent clips: The cameras come with a resolution of 2288×1288 max, but sometimes they will record in 1280×720, 1920×1080 and the framerate will vary wildly from as low as 4 fps to 25fps. I know this cuts down on size, but it’s annoying when I want to use the clip elsewhere.

Best wifi security camera system out of four I purchased here on Amazon.
In researching a wi-fi only camera system, I purchased four systems on Amazon, and returned three and kept this one. I purchased systems from OnWOTE, HISEEU, Firstrend, and Canavis. If you are shopping for a wi-fi security system with a good image, and great wifi reception, which is critical to the system working properly, this system from Firstrend is your best bet related to cost, and as others have mentioned the customer service.I will briefing describe the issues with the other systems, this is based on my opinion and the operation of the systems based on where we needed the cameras and systems to be placed. The OnWOTE system had just average picture quality, and not good night vision at all. In addition I would loose connectivity with cameras often. The HiSeeu system was OK, but I have a power supply fail repeatedly and contacted customer support via email. Johnny replied and agreed to ship a new power supply to me. He sent me an email showing a shipment notification, but almost one month after that email I have never received anything. With the power supply failing, and lack luster customer service that system was returned. The Canavis system had the best picture quality and the worst reception range for the cameras. I wanted to like and keep the Canavis system, but the dropping of the connection and the slow transfer rates resulted in the return of this system as well. Yes I know, I could have purchased a wi-fi range extender to improve the reception, but WHY should I have to do that. I am not looking for a mile of connectivity just a normal two story home. And if I am spending $200 on the system, it should just work out of the box. The Firstrend system has a great picture and good night vision. One of the best parts is the connectivity of the system. I am getting excellent signal transmission on the unit and cameras, from the same locations the other units were failing. I did have one issue and that was one of the camera was great in the daytime, but at night the image was foggy almost like it had condensation behind the lens of the camera. So I contacted customer support via email, and received an email back within one day. They asked a few trouble shooting questions, normal stuff, and agreed to send me a new camera. That was great customer service. Within a few days the new camera arrived, and I could not add it to my system following the instructions that were sent via email with the shipment notification. So I found a phone number for Firstrend, 888-806-1588 called the number left a voice message, and sent an email as well. The instructions they sent appeared to be for a different system due to the menu configuration. Within one day, I received a phone call from an international number, it was Firstrend. Wow, they did return my call. During the call the nice lady discussed with me my situation about not being able to add the new camera to my system. She researched my order, and the camera they sent me to replace it. She discovered the new camera was not compatible with the system I purchased. She promptly stated she was sending me a new camera for my system, and for me to keep the camera that had sent in error. I asked how long would the new camera take, and she added priority shipping at no charge as well. So that evening I received an email from Firstrend with a screenshot of the order being placed for a new camera and 2 day shipping. So I really could not ask for much more customer service than that. I have had the system up and running for over two weeks now and really can’t stress enough that the reception range on this system and the cameras is very good. I had to adjust the direction of the antennas on the cameras for maximum throughput, but it is running well.So in conclusion, for the money, the Firstrend system is great – and the customer service is outstanding. I am hoping the system lasts for a couple of years, so we will see.Take care,

A good camera set for the price.
Likes:– Camera’s were simple to setup. The unit comes preconfigured with the 4 camera’s and the wifi sets up a non routed network for them in the 172.x.x.x network.– The system was able to use other recent ONVIF cameras with the monitor only, they don’t work with the PC software. The 4 you get with the system do work well with both the phone app and the pc software.– The tech support people were nice and were able to help me. They do call back on their time which was 11pm EST my time.Dislikes– The NVR works well but plan on adding a new drive if your going to up the camera count or add PoE camera’s that have a higher FPS video output.– The PC software doesn’t display other camera types on the software. It shows them on but no images are being transmitted.– The Phone App doesn’t take settings from the NVR for camera devices.– RTSP protocol for other cameras doesn’t appear to work even though it will say connected.– It will not work with older camera’s with older versions of ONVIF protocols.Overall:Its not a bad set for the price point. If you take your time, test the camera’s out of the box. Keep in mind putting in new camera’s so they look nice takes time, you can do a lot with the system.I’m happy with the system.Side Note:You should think about what you will need to hide wires and have power at each location before doing any physical changes to the walls.

  4. satisfied customer

I have two of these Firstrend Wireless Security Camera systems. The pictures are clear both in the daytime and with the IR at night. Connecting the cameras to the NVR is straightforward. I noticed some folks say they don’t have audio but my cameras all transmit audio if turned on. It seems only 1 camera at a time can send audio. The systems have been running reliably 24/7 since startup. One camera did fail recently and was replaced under warranty without any issues. One nice feature of the system is its ability to relay a weak signal from one camera through another camera with a stronger signal.A better solution would be to use WI-FI 6 which penetrates obstacles easier. I have installed a 2TB harddrive in each NVR. System reboots itself after power outages. Decent system for the price. Would recommend.

We have a system exactly the same we purchased two years ago. We really liked it. Easy to set up and use. Clear camera picture. Easy to access when we are not on property using the app on phone. Seems tough even ran very well through Canadian winters. We use them for outside. We just purchased another system so we will run two different systems in the yard. We have experienced good quality and good value. Reliable systems. We use to have nest and Motorola which was an overpriced disaster. We recommend firstrend over and above any other security systems. Very happy in Canada

  6. Racer24

finally got out and installed the cameras after looking at everything for a few days.. and WoW 🙂 crystal clear pictures and no issues at all with getting up & running.. amazed at the range as well.. I put one camera about 100ft from the base unit on the back side of our barn and it linked just fine 🙂 we can now watch our entire property with the 4 cameras no problem. one wish though, we have 1, 4 or 8 feeds to display but would like to have the option for just 2 in a split screen or at least 2 large views with 2 thumbnail shots .. probably asking for a lot 🙂

  7. JL

We bought the first unit about 2 years ago. Everything was working ok until about 3 months ago, when one of the cameras stopped working. After reading the reviews saying it’s easy to add additional cameras by buying an additional unit, we repeated our original order. Once we got it, each unit worked independently, but neither would recognize cameras from the other set. Turns out, the model was slightly different. It took about a week for the vendor to reply to my inquiry, but once they did, they were very helpful in offering return and providing me with the proper model that would be compatible with the unit I already had.If you are buying just one set, I highly recommend this product. If you are purchasing an additional set, I would highly recommend checking with the vendor to make sure that they will be compatible to avoid dealing with returns and delays.

  8. Parth G Parmar

I bought the product in Aug 2021 for my Pharmacy. There are total four of them.To install and run the camera was an easy process, but as you can see 2 of them are not working. This is an ongoing issue since I have installed them. Every 2-3 days I have to reboot the system in order to make them up and running.Initially when I came accross this problem I though there might be a physical connection wifi connection problem and due to that reason I ended up paying $120 to a technician to fix it.But that didn’t solve the problem and till date it is not working properly at least for 1 straight week. Very Frustrating!!!Not recommended !!!!
